Yup, I’m a football fan.
Specifically, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Each year I get more excited about football season – even when we aren’t winning – which thankfully isn’t too often. #sixburgh
I’ve come a long way from when I was a little girl and had zero interest in football.
In fact, I wanted to know when the commercials were on so I could watch them and I would ask my step-dad to let me know when it was half-time so I could come out and pretend to be a cheerleader.
That was so long ago it was when the cheerleaders did half-time shows, with batons and everything. Now we have talking heads and highlights from all the other games. #iamold
[Side note: that was back when you had to get up to change the channel on the television…with a DIAL. And remember when the networks actually went off the air?]
Good question! The short answer is because my ex-husband’s family is from Pittsburgh.
His whole family would get together and cheer on their team, and it was contagious.
I have my own reasons now – including the fact that they are family owned, loyal to their head coaches (they have only had 16 head coaches since 1933,) and they were the first NFL team to hire a female athletic trainer.
Ironically, given my early football experience, they are also one of a handful of teams (I think there are 6) who don’t have cheerleaders.
Seeing a Steelers game at Heinz Field is one of my bucket list items, thought I did get to see them at Candlestick, about six years ago. #MNF #blackout #nomorecandlestick
In case you were wondering…we won today!
