I don’t know about you, but I am totally into personality tests. I have taken many over my lifetime – from what motivates you? to the perfect job for your astrological sign and everything in between.
I hang on to most of them – it’s easy to these days when you just pop the email results into a mail folder and kinda forget about it.
But, just yesterday I was checking out a fellow Facebook group member and writer’s website and now I am inspired to share all the juicy details with you about what makes me tick – aren’t you excited?
Without further ado (and with thanks to Hayley Walden and her gorgeous website for the inspiration) here is more about ME!
[Note: I was going to list the results from several tests like Hayley does, but then I got all into the StrengthsFinder results and that got long, so I am only covering that one today. I’ll review the others in subsequent posts…#arentyouexcited?]
According to the Gallup StrengthsFinder my Top 5 Strengths are:
- Input: People who are especially talented in the Input theme have a craving to know more. Often they like to collect and archive all kinds of information.
Do I ever! It’s a cross I bear. I have folders of information, several active notebooks at any given time, and too many books and magazines to ever read…but does that slow me down? Not at all.
How is this of service to others? Friends and family use me as a resource – from travel tips to help with last minute passport renewals or finding out how to do or find some random thing…often I am the one they ask because they know I love the hunt.
2. Futuristic: People who are especially talented in the Futuristic theme are inspired by the future and what could be. They inspire others with their visions of the future.
This is absolutely true! I am a dreamer and a possibilitarian and 90% of the time I am totally motivated and optimistic about the future and what it can be.
I am a cheerleader for big dreams and leaps of faith.
How is this of service to others? When I have asked what they come to me for, folks have told me I am inspirational. They have said my persistence and courage and dedication encourages them to take chances, and do things they may have hesitated to do before. I have inspired people to begin writing, to read more poetry, and to go after their dreams. I see this as one of the biggest gifts I have to give.
3. Intellection: [how is this even a word? it sounds so wrong…] People who are especially talented in the Intellection theme are characterized by their intellectual activity. They are introspective and appreciate intellectual discussions.
Honestly, sometimes I see this as a fault. I can spend way too much time in my head intellecting! This is why mindfulness, meditation, and time spent in physical activity are essential to my well-being, otherwise, I spend too much time in my head. As my hero, Anne Lamott says, “My mind is like a bad neighborhood, I try not to go there alone.
How is this of service to others? Not everyone likes introspective discussions…so if you want to get down and dirty and dive deep into the intellection of how and why we are who we are, well, I’m your girl! #intellectingismysuperpower
4. Learner: People who are especially talented in the Learner theme have a great desire to learn and want to continuously improve. In particular, the process of learning, rather than the outcome, excites them.
This is really just a continuation of my intellecting over input (seriously, intellecting is my new favorite word. I’ll be intellecting all over you for days! What are you up to, Jessica? Oh, just intellecting. #soundsdirtywhenisayit)
How is this of service to others? It means I am never stagnant, always seeking, never boring. In other words, I am fun, a good party guest, and gosh darn it, people like me! #partyinthelibrary
5. Activator: People who are especially talented in the Activator theme can make things happen by turning thoughts into action. They are often impatient.
Impatient? Who, me?!? Yeah, whatever, I was impatient yesterday, but that was boring so today I’m something else! #nailmeethammer Thoughts into action…yes, and no. I have manifested some pretty cool things, like my sweetie, the big house we lived in, a few jobs. And one year I decided to write an erotic novel and I did it in 6 weeks, then self-published it and put it on Amazon where it sold a few hundred copies (which is more than my friends and relatives combined, so there were strangers in there who bought it too!)
How is this of service to others? It means if you want a cheerleader in your corner, a coach, a mentor, an accountability partner, then hook up with me! I am much better at keeping others on track than I am keeping myself on track. And to flow with the track/sports metaphor – I always said I needed a coach to give me workouts, even though I was one myself. There’s something about having someone else tell me what I already know I need to do that makes all the difference.
Are you like that too?
